1402 Pork n' Bean Blue

At the intersection of his grandmother’s death and the redevelopment of the public housing project his family has lived in for generations, artist, community advocate and father of three, Roscoe B. Thicke III reflects on his childhood in the Pork n’ Beans projects and the influences behind his work.

You Can Always Come Home

You Can Always Come Home is a short film that explores the domestic realm through the eyes of a young child. Filmed in Miami, Florida, where Studio Barnes and Preguntas Studio is located, this installation highlights themes such as celebration, ritual, family, and love through Black spatial occupation of the kitchen and front porch. Tangent to the film is a poem written by artists Reginald O’Neal and Arsimmer McCoy that furthers the investigation and liberation of Blackness in the architected environment. 

You Can Always Come Home is the recipient of the 1st place prize for the Knight Made in MIA Award at Miami Film Festival.

Almost There: Gonzalo Hernandez

Artist Gonzalo Hernandez will be presenting a solo exhibition at Laundromat Art Space beginning October 23 featuring a new body of work constructed on the tension of the phrase “almost there.”Constructed with scrap-cut images from other artist references, scratched to-do lists, and printed textiles, all of the pieces included in the show reflect on the constant push and pull of working towards being an artist.
